The Olympic set is the third this year and the eighth overall in the America the Beautiful Quarters Three-Coin Set™ series. It was preceded by the Gettysburg and Glacier sets this year, and both are still available.

What makes this set a valuable collector product are the three Olympic Quarters: a proof 2011-S, an uncirculated 2011-P, and an uncirculated 2011-D, to represent one coin from each of the three United States Mint facilities that produce the quarters -- San Francisco, Philadelphia and Denver. The small three coin set provides an economical way of adding each type of strike to a collection without having to break up a larger set containing other coin denominations.

The quarters are mounted on a durable plastic card, and on the back of the card is a brief description of Olympic National Park and the coin's design, as well as a Certificate of Authenticity.

Once available, hobbyists may place an order via the Mint's online store at http://www.usmint.gov/catalog or call 1-800-USA-MINT (872-6468).

The Olympic National Park Quarter was ceremoniously released on June 14 at City Pier in Port Angeles, Washington, but  the Federal Reserve Bank began putting the coins into circulation a day earlier. Also on June 13, the U.S. Mint began offering them in bags and rolls.

The 2011 Olympic quarter reverse, designed by Susan Gamble and sculpted by Michael Gaudioso, features a Roosevelt elk standing on a gravel river bar of the Hoh River with a classic image of Mount Olympus in the background. Inscriptions include OLYMPIC, WASHINGTON, 2011 and E PLURIBUS UNUM.

For reference, the U.S. Mint press release announcing the three-coin set follows.
