Although the latest sales report was a shorter week than the last, 2011 Proof Silver Eagles made it back to the top of the sales chart with a gain of 16,015 in six days. In the previous report, they climbed 3,674 over eight days.
Perhaps the factors helping the Silver Eagles were its lower price and publicity for being part of the 5-coin 25th Anniversary Set. The US Mint decreased its price on October 7 by $9.50, and it announced the upcoming Anniversary Set's price will be $299.95.
Not far behind the Eagles' top position was the 2011 Proof Set. It rose by an impressive 12,387 and beat its prior increase of 11,398. The third most popular numismatic item was the 2011 Uncirculated Silver Eagle, which improved by 8,827.
In bullion news, the American Silver Eagles were the biggest movers. The US Mint's network of Authorized Purchasers (AP's) took in 802,000 of them since Wednesday, October 12. The Silver Eagle's new record total is now resting at 36,043,500. The AP's also scooped up 15,000 one ounce and 5,000 one-tenth ounce American Gold Eagles and 4,500 American Buffalo gold coins.
