Olympic National Park Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin

Coming Tuesday, November 29, 2011, at 12:00 PM (noon) ET, the United States Mint will debut the collector Olympic National Park Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin.

What makes the collector Olympic silver coin unique is its limited mintage, uncirculated finish, and the Philadelphia mint mark. It also comes packaged in the U.S. Mint's protective coin holder and presentation case with a Certificate of Authenticity. The bullion version, struck for investors, is already on the market and can be found through various coin and precious metal dealers.

As the third 2011-dated five ouncer and the eighth release in the America the Beautiful coin series, the Olympic coin honors Olympic National Park in Washington, a massive sanctuary of nearly one million acres that has everything from beaches to rain forests to glacier-capped mountains.

The designs are the same as the circulating Olympic quarter but on a larger scale. Its reverse features an elk standing on the bar of the Hoh River with Mount Olympus in the background. Inscriptions are OLYMPIC, WASHINGTON, 2011 and E PLURIBUS UNUM.

If the price of the coin remains the same as the other available .999 fine silver five ounce coins, it will cost buyers $229.95 each. When it launches, there will be a five coin per household limit for at least the first week. For the previous Glacier National Park Five Ounce Uncirculated Coin released in October, the United States Mint is still enforcing the limit.

For reference, the United States Mint press release about the Olympic National Park Five Ounce Uncirculated Coin follows.

WASHINGTON - Collectors may begin ordering the 2011 America the Beautiful Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin - Olympic National Park (Washington) on November 29 at noon Eastern Time (ET). The current price of the coin is $229.95; however, as with all United States Mint products containing precious metals, pricing is subject to change.

A maximum mintage limit of 35,000 units has been set for each of the 2011 America the Beautiful Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coins. Orders will be limited to five coins per household for the first week of sales. At the end of one week, the United States Mint will re-evaluate this limit and either extend, adjust or remove it.

The America the Beautiful Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coins are collector versions of those issued through the America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coin™ Program. The three-inch uncirculated coins feature the same designs that appear on the bullion coins and the corresponding circulating quarters issued through the America the Beautiful Quarters® Program.

The America the Beautiful Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coins are struck in .999 fine silver and display the "P" mint mark indicating production at the United States Mint at Philadelphia. To protect the uncirculated finish, each coin is enclosed in a capsule and an attractive presentation case. A Certificate of Authenticity is included with each coin.

The United States Mint will accept orders at http://www.usmint.gov/catalog and at 1-800-USA-MINT (872-6468). Hearing- and speech-impaired customers with TTY equipment may order at 1-888-321-MINT (6468). A shipping and handling fee of $4.95 will be added to all domestic orders.

Note: To ensure that all members of the public have fair and equal access to United States Mint products, orders placed prior to the official on-sale date and time of November 29, 2011, noon ET shall not be deemed accepted by the United States Mint and will not be honored. Olympic National Park Quarter Three-Coin Set Availability

Tuesday, September 20, 2011, the United States Mint will launch the collector Olympic National Park Quarter Three-Coin Set at noon Eastern Time. Its price will be $14.95, which is the same as the earlier 2011 releases in the series.

The Olympic set is the third this year and the eighth overall in the America the Beautiful Quarters Three-Coin Set™ series. It was preceded by the Gettysburg and Glacier sets this year, and both are still available.

What makes this set a valuable collector product are the three Olympic Quarters: a proof 2011-S, an uncirculated 2011-P, and an uncirculated 2011-D, to represent one coin from each of the three United States Mint facilities that produce the quarters -- San Francisco, Philadelphia and Denver. The small three coin set provides an economical way of adding each type of strike to a collection without having to break up a larger set containing other coin denominations.

The quarters are mounted on a durable plastic card, and on the back of the card is a brief description of Olympic National Park and the coin's design, as well as a Certificate of Authenticity.

Once available, hobbyists may place an order via the Mint's online store at http://www.usmint.gov/catalog or call 1-800-USA-MINT (872-6468).

The Olympic National Park Quarter was ceremoniously released on June 14 at City Pier in Port Angeles, Washington, but  the Federal Reserve Bank began putting the coins into circulation a day earlier. Also on June 13, the U.S. Mint began offering them in bags and rolls.

The 2011 Olympic quarter reverse, designed by Susan Gamble and sculpted by Michael Gaudioso, features a Roosevelt elk standing on a gravel river bar of the Hoh River with a classic image of Mount Olympus in the background. Inscriptions include OLYMPIC, WASHINGTON, 2011 and E PLURIBUS UNUM.

For reference, the U.S. Mint press release announcing the three-coin set follows.

WASHINGTON - The United States Mint will begin accepting orders for the 2011 America the Beautiful Quarters Three-Coin Set - Olympic National Park (Wash.) on September 20, 2011, at noon Eastern Time (ET).

The set contains two uncirculated quality Olympic National Park quarters - one each from the United States Mint facilities at Philadelphia and Denver - and one proof quality quarter from the United States Mint at San Francisco. The coins are mounted on a durable plastic card that includes a brief description of the site and coin design, as well as a Certificate of Authenticity on the back.

The 2011 America the Beautiful Quarters Three-Coin Set - Olympic National Park is priced at $14.95. To place an order, visit http://www.usmint.gov/catalog or call 1-800-USA-MINT (872-6468). Hearing- and speech-impaired customers with TTY equipment may order by calling 1-888-321-MINT (6468). A shipping and handling fee of $4.95 will be added to all domestic orders.

America the Beautiful Quarters Three-Coin Sets are also available for purchase through the United States Mint's Online Subscription Program. For more information about this convenient ordering method, please visit http://www.usmint.gov/catalog.

Note: To ensure that all members of the public have fair and equal access to United States Mint products, orders placed prior to the official on-sale date and time of September 20, 2011, noon ET shall not be deemed accepted by the United States Mint and will not be honored. Olympic National Park Five Ounce Silver Bullion Coin

Olympic National Park Coin

The United States Mint has scheduled the launch of Olympic National Park Five Ounce Silver Bullion Coin, the third 2011 five-ounce America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coin. It will begin accepting orders from its network of Authorized Purchasers for the bullion Olympic Silver Coin on Monday, May 23, 2011.

The investor-quality silver bullion coin will enter the market before its companion circulating America the Beautiful Quarter, which launches on June 13, 2011. The coin's design is the same as the quarter-dollar, but on a larger scale.

The reverse depicts a Roosevelt elk standing on a gravel river bar of the Hoh River with a view of Mount Olympus in the background. Inscriptions include OLYMPIC, WASHINGTON, 2011 and E PLURIBUS UNUM.

The bullion issue has a large 3.0 inch diameter and contains 5.0 troy ounces of .999 fine silver. It does not have a mintmark to denote it was struck at the US Mint facility in Philadelphia, and it is only sold in large quantities to United States Mint Authorized Purchasers who then sell them in the secondary market.

The mintage for the Olympic National Park Five Ounce Silver Bullion Coin will be at least 126,700, which is expected to be the same for each of the following 2011-dated bullion coins. Last year's limit was much smaller. The Mint only struck 33,000 of each 2010 bullion coins.

For reference, the body of the memorandum the United States Mint sent to its Authorized Purchasers about the Olympic coin follows:

The United States Mint will begin accepting orders for the third 2011 America the Beautiful Five Ounce Silver Bullion Coin- Olympic National Park- on Monday, May 23, 2011. The coins will be offered on an allocation basis, divided equally among participating silver Authorized Purchasers (APs).

The United States Mint will issue coins in the 2011 America the Beautiful Silver Five Ounce Bullion Coins Program in quantities substantially higher than we did for the 2010 America the Beautiful Five Ounce Silver Bullion Coins Program. As a result, there will be no terms and conditions imposed on the 2011 America the Beautiful Five Ounce Silver Bullion Coins Program.

The United States Mint will allocate an initial quantity of 126,700 coins for this issue. Our goal to have a minimum of at least 126,700 coins for each of the subsequent 2011 designs. The United States Mint may increase the mintage limit beyond the initial release quantities based on market demand and blank availability.

To participate in the 2011 America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coins Program, APs that participated in the 2010 America the Beautiful Five Ounce Silver Bullion Coins program must certify that it has sold ALL of its 2010 America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coins Program inventory to the public in compliance with the terms and conditions for these coins. Certifications must appear on company letterhead and be signed by an authorized representative of the Authorized Purchaser. A fax copy is acceptable. Certifications must be received by the United States Mint no later than 3:00PM (ET) Thursday, May 19, 2011. APs that did not participate in the 2010 program but wish to participate in the 2011 program can do so.

The premium remains unchanged from 2010, set at $9.75 per coin. When placing your orders, please be sure to properly identify the product you are ordering, i.e. 5 OZ ATB Olympic Coins, and please state the ounces and pieces that you are ordering. The minimum order quantity for the 5 ounce silver bullion coins is 10,000 ounces/2000 coins, with 500 oz/100 coin increments. A memo will be sent to each AP on the morning of May 23, 2011, confirming the allocation by design and quantity.

A collector version Olympic 5 oz Silver Uncirculated Coin is due from the Mint later this year. For more information on the coins, also check out sister site America the Beautiful Silver Coins.

In a press release published by CoinNews from the Royal Mint, Dave Knight, Director of Commemorative Coin, expressed his excitement for the new strikes:

"Every one of our twenty nine winners is making history. Their coins will become treasured mementos of the biggest sporting event to happen on UK shores in a generation, and will be around for generations to come.

"Every coin captures the spirit, excitement and passion of the Olympic and Paralympic Games. In isolation each is a work of art, together they are an inspirational portrait of a sporting phenomenon.
