American Eagle 25th Anniversary Silver Coin Set, US Mint Schedule Update

Thursday, the United States Mint added one more item to its 2011 schedule, the American Eagle 25th Anniversary Silver Coin Set. It will launch on Thursday, October 27. Its price, however, is still unknown but will likely be revealed just days before the release.

The set is sure to be a big hit with collectors. It will have a limited mintage of up to 100,000 and contain five coins: three that are available now and two that quite possibly will be unique.

Typically, sets that are limited editions and contain a special coin that cannot be acquired in any other way become not only nice collector items, but good investments that tend to hold their value. The three-coin American Eagle 20th Anniversary Silver Coin Set is an example. It was released in August of 2006 and contained a special reverse proof from Philadelphia. The United States Mint sold the set for $100, but it has a strong aftermarket value, as current bids on eBay are averaging $386.

Other items coming up on the 2011 United States Mint schedule feature America the Beautiful Quarters, gold collector coins and Presidential $1 coin related products.

A breakout of the schedule for upcoming Mint releases follows:

The upcoming quarter-dollar offerings are the Vicksburg Three-Coin Set and the bags and rolls of Chickasaw Quarters, which includes the 100-Coin Quarter Bags (P) and 100-Coin Quarter Bags (D) as well as two-roll sets that contain 40 coins from Denver and 40 coins from Philadelphia.

Also, another set is due out, which is the 2011 America the Beautiful Quarters™ Circulating Coin Set. Last year's set has been popular, and so far, collectors purchased 21,116 of them.

Just two of four new America the Beautiful Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coins are planned to launch at this time, the Glacier and Olympic silver coins. The dates for the last ones, the Vicksburg and Chickasaw silver coins, have yet to be determined.

In addition, the last Presidential dollar coin and related products will be out soon. They will honor James Garfield, the 20th President, and his wife Lucretia Garfield. The Garfield dollar will be offered in 25-Coin Rolls, and one is in the Garfield $1 Coin Cover and in the Presidential $1 Coin & First Spouse Medal Set.

His wife, Lucretia Garfield, will be featured on the bronze medal sold individually and in the Presidential $1 Coin & Medal Set. She will also be honored on the half-ounce 24-karat proof and uncirculated First Spouse Coins.

It should be noted, the United States Mint prominently states in bold print that its scheduled products listing is not carved in stone, by saying:

"All dates are subject to change by the United States Mint without prior notice."
