US Mint Sales: Bullion Silver Eagles Top 19.7 Million

Without any new releases and the Memorial Day holiday, most sales of numismatic products continued to ease last week according to the latest round of US Mint sales figures. Only 21 products outperformed their prior week's gains. Bullion Silver Eagles, on the other hand, continued to run.

The US Mint's network of Authorized Purchasers kept their attention directed on the Silver Eagles and picked up 817,000 in the beginning of June. So far this year, they bought a remarkable 19,718,500 of the bullion Silver Eagles. No update for the Olympic Five Ounce Silver Bullion Coin was given.

The 2011 Proof Platinum Eagle that launched on Thursday, May 26, grew by 658 after a full week on the market, making its new total hit 7,444. Sales are still moving slower than last year, as the product reached 49.6% of its 15,000 maximum.

For collectors, the 2011 Proof Set was still at the top of the most wanted list. Its sales climbed by 7,302 in this round. As a comparison, it rose by 7,442 in the last one. The second most coveted item was the 2011 Silver Proof Set. It added 4,334 to its total after increasing by 4,909 previously.

A few products lost sales this time compared to one product that was cut back in the prior report. The most notable slip was the silver version Medal of Honor Commemorative Coins. The proof dollar declined by -259 and the uncirculated dollar retreated by -64.

The first three columns of the table below provide weekly US Mint sales increases between the listed time periods, offering a sense of recent trends. The final column provides the latest US Mint sales totals as of Sunday, June 5, 2011. Bullion coin tables are found toward the bottom, with the most recent sales as of Wednesday, June 8.
