US Mint Collector Gold Coin Prices Raised for Second Week

The United States Mint on Wednesday increased prices on its collector gold coins for a second straight week.

Gold coin prices were raised for the same reason as last week, gains in the yellow metal which lifted the Mint's pricing bar in accordance with its policy. The market price of bullion hit several new records early in the week, which yanked the London Fix weekly gold average into a new tier.

For reference, the gold average moved into the Mint's $1,600.00 and $1,649.99 an ounce pricing range, which called for gold coin product increases ranging from a low of $5 to as high as $92.50. The new prices follow:

In total, 12 United States Mint gold coin products had their price tags pulled higher. The First Spouse Gold Coins include the five for sale that honor Julia Grant, Eliza Johnson and Mary Todd Lincoln.

Last week the United States Mint also raised what it charged for the Proof American Platinum Eagle. Platinum prices moved up as well but not enough to kick-in a price change for the Platinum Eagle.

Note: The Mint's bullion products are produced for investors and have a more dynamic pricing scheme than what is used for the collector coins listed above. The United States Mint does not offer bullion coins directly to the public but instead sells them for a small premium to its network of Authorized Purchasers who then resell the coins to coin dealers and precious metals providers. Unlike the collector versions, the bullion coins do not feature the special proof and uncirculated finishes and they do not have mintmarks.
