US Mint Gold and Silver Bullion Coin Sales in April 2011

America the Beautiful Coins

Buyers ordered more American bullion coins in April 2011 than during the previous month, the latest US Mint bullion coin sales figures show. Silver Eagles had their best April at 2.819 million and Gold Eagles soared with April sales of 108,000 ounces. The American Buffalo Gold bullion coin retreated for the month and the first two 2011 America the Beautiful Five Ounce Bullion Coins made their debut.

April American Silver Eagle sales were 1.9% higher than those from March, and they surpassed last year's April tally by 12.4%. American Gold Eagle sales were 46.9% higher than the prior month and up 78.5% from March 2010.

Since their introduction in 1986, buyers in general tend to order fewer American Eagle bullion products in the months closer to summer, and more toward the beginning and end of a year. This year American Eagle bullion coin monthly levels had been slowing since January until last month's increases broke the trend, as highlighted in the following two sales tables:

Additional bullion coin activity during the month included the 24-karat American Gold Buffalo. Debuting in March at 38,000, its levels retreated in April to 20,500. The latest sales show how the coins have performed since their introduction in 2006.

The last three issues will launch later this year.
