Five new coin products launched and collectors eagerly responded -- especially for the 2010 Silver Eagle Proof, according to the most recent US Mint sales figures.
Buyers also gobbled up the US Mint proof sets a bit more than the prior week. Silver bullion was popular too, while gold bullion coin sales took the back seat.

It was easily one of the best inaugural US Mint sales for both in recent years.
Mount Hood Quarter products started slow. Opening sales for previous 2010 America the Beautiful Quarters were more than 4,000 for each 100-coin bag and more than 23,000 for the Two-Roll Sets. Yet, Mount Hood started with 1,543 (P) 100-coin bags, 1,465 (D) 100-coin bags, and 7,495 Two-Roll Sets. In their defense, however, when the previous quarters launched, the Mint did not release four additional products during the same week.
Gold products were sluggish in this round. The number of 2010 Proof Buffalo coins sold was slashed by more than half, and the same went for the First Spouse gold coins. Even the 2010 Proof Gold Eagle coins could not repeat their previous week's gains. It should be noted, though, the Four-Coin Set hit 60 percent of its maximum.
As far as sets go, demand for the US Mint 2010 Proof Set strengthened. It gained 34,059 compared to 30,183 previously. The 2010 Silver Proof Set advanced 15,746 versus 10,416, and the 2010 Mint Set leaped by 12,097 after gaining 8,556 in the prior week.
US Mint Silver Eagle bullion coins continued to set new records. In one week's time, they surged by 1,160,000 and pushed their monthly total to 3,875,000 -- the highest for any month in 2010 AND since the series started in 1986. Year-to-date sales reached 32,505,500 and set a new record for the highest annual sales. In addition, the 2010 silver Eagles surpassed 2009's final mintage of 30,459,000 so it holds the new series record at 32,138,000.
