US Mint Issues 2011 America the Beautiful Quarters Circulating Coin Set

Tuesday, November 29, 2011, the United States Mint issued the 2011 America the Beautiful Quarters Circulating Coin Set. Its price is $9.95, which is identical to last year's release.

The set of 2011 quarters is the second of its kind in the America the Beautiful Quarters® program. It includes 10 of this year's quarter dollars, two strikes of each design. One of each design is produced at the United States Mint manufacturing facilities located in Philadelphia and Denver. Although the coins are business quality, they have never entered circulation.

The five designs of the 2011 coins depict a scene emblematic of Gettysburg National Military Park, Glacier National Park, Olympic National Park, Vicksburg National Military Park, and Chickasaw National Recreation Area.

The coins are mounted on a card that allows easy access. This set provides collectors with an economical opportunity to add each of this year's issues to a collection or coin album without having to break up one of the U.S. Mint's larger or more expensive sets that may contain other coin denominations.

Once available, hobbyists may place an order via the Mint's online store at http://www.usmint.gov/catalog or call 1-800-USA-MINT (872-6468).

Chickasaw Quarters Bags and Rolls, Ceremonial Launch and Coin Exchange

Chickasaw National Recreation Area Quarter

Two recent announcements from the United States Mint revealed the details of the upcoming ceremonial launch of the 2011 Chickasaw quarter and the coin exchange that will follow, plus the sale of the quarters in bags and rolls.

As the tenth design in the America the Beautiful Quarters® and being the fifth and last for 2011, the latest quarter honors Chickasaw National Recreation Area in Oklahoma.

Its reverse features the picturesque limestone Lincoln Bridge located along the Travertine Creek in the park. U.S. Mint Master Designer Donna Weaver designed the image, and U.S. Mint Sculptor-Engraver Jim Licaretz engraved it.

The first product to debut will go on sale Monday, November 14, at noon Eastern Time. 100-coin bags of the 2011 Chickasaw quarter will be $49.95 and the two-roll set will be $39.95. The set will consist of 80 quarters in all, with 40 from the mint facility in Philadelphia and the other 40 from the facility in Denver. The 100-coin bags will come from either facility of the buyer's choice.

When the items launch, they will be available at http://www.usmint.gov/catalog or 1-800-USA-MINT (872-6468). The shipping and handling charge will be $4.95 on all domestic orders.

It should be noted that Monday, November 14, will also be the day that the Federal Reserve Bank will release the new quarters into circulation through various financial institutions. Since it may take a while for the strikes from both Philadelphia and Denver to make their way into pocket change, many collectors will simply buy their quarters straight from the U.S. Mint in bags or rolls.

On Tuesday, November 15, the United States Mint will host a coin forum at 7 PM for the public, in preparation for the special coin launch ceremony the next day. Tuesday night's coin forum will be held at the Travertine Nature Center Auditorium in the Chickasaw National Recreation Area, and U.S. Mint officials will be on hand to answer any questions about US coins, programs, and initiatives.

Finally, on Wednesday, November 16 at 11 a.m., the U.S. Mint and the National Park Service will host the Chickasaw Quarter Ceremonial Launch at Flower Park in Sulphur, Oklahoma. (The ceremony was originally scheduled to be by the Point at the Lake of the Arbuckles.) Children in attendance will receive a free Chickasaw quarter.

Speakers will include B.B. Craig, US Mint Associate Director for Sales and Marketing and Bruce Noble, Chickasaw National Recreation Area Superintendent.

Immediately following the ceremony will be a coin exchange, where adults can buy rolls of the new quarters at face value, $10 each, from a local bank's booth that will be set up near the speakers' stage. If tradition ensues, many attendees will go through the line for the coin exchange several times until all of the new quarter rolls are gone.

US Mint Sales: Vicksburg Quarters Top 2011 Proof Silver Eagles

Based on the latest data, the United States Mint enjoyed several days of robust coin sales even though several products experienced temporary suspensions due to rising costs of precious metals.

80 of the Mint's collector products outperformed their previous weekly gains compared to just 20 in the last report. At the top of the US Mint sales chart were the debuting Vicksburg quarters. They were followed by the 2011 Proof Silver Eagle, the 2011 Proof Set, and the 9/11 Silver Medal from West Point.

For the second week in a row, a debuting product stole the spotlight from the 2011 Proof Silver Eagles, which had held the top spot for nearly two months. This time, the most popular numismatic item was the Vicksburg quarters two-roll set. An impressive 18,719 sold, while the 100-coin bags racked up 2,457 and 2,379 in inaugural sales for the Philadelphia and Denver bags, respectively. The Vicksburg quarters products launched on Monday, August 29.

The 2011 Proof Silver Eagles were still in high demand though. Another 8,944 were purchased, bringing their new sales total up to 735,865. In the prior week, before the Mint raised the Silver Eagle's price, 10,593 were taken.

Also debuting on the charts were the Lucy Hayes First Spouse Gold Coins. Collectors, who pounced on their opportunity to buy them on the first day, September 1, were the lucky ones, because the all of the First Spouse coins were suspended the next day. When sales resumed on Wednesday, their prices rose by $50 each. The lucky buyers scooped up 1,265 of the proofs and 857 of the uncirculated.

As for bullion sales, they practically came to a standstill compared to the booming activity during August. The American Silver Eagles rose by 133,000 and the one ounce Gold Eagle added 3,000 since the last report. The remaining fractional Gold Eagles, 24-karat American Buffalo, and five ounce America the Beautiful coins were all silent.

The first three columns of the table below provide weekly United States Mint sales increases between the listed time periods, offering a sense of recent trends. The final column provides the latest United States Mint sales totals as of Monday, September 5, 2011. Bullion coin tables are found toward the bottom, with the most recent sales as of Thursday, September 8. (NLA = No Longer Available.)

Earlier this week, the United States Mint announced the upcoming availability of bags and rolls of 2011 Vicksburg National Military Park Quarters. The products will go on sale Monday, August 29, at noon Eastern Time. The price for each 100-coin bag will be $49.95 and $39.95 for the two-roll set that contains 80 quarters.

The U.S. Mint also distributed a media advisory regarding a coin forum occurring on the 29th and a launch ceremony for the 2011 Vicksburg Quarter on Tuesday, August 30, at 9:30 a.m. Central Daylight Time.

The 2011 Vicksburg quarter is the fourth 2011 America the Beautiful Quarters and the ninth in the America the Beautiful Quarters® Program. The law requires the Mint to release five new quarters each year until 2021, with each depicting a national park or site throughout the U.S. and its territories. The Mint has chosen to issue the quarters in the order in which the honored location was first established as a national site.

As the second national military park design in the program, the reverse of the 2011 Vicksburg quarters portrays the warship U.S.S. Cairo as it would have appeared during the Civil War on the Yazoo River. It was designed by Thomas Cleveland and engraved by Joseph Menna. Inscriptions include VICKSBURG, MISSISSIPPI, 2011 and E PLURIBUS UNUM.

Vicksburg Quarters in Bags and Rolls

Buyers have a choice between 2011-D quarters or 2011-P quarters from the Mint facilities in Denver or Philadelphia for the 100-coin bag. The canvas bag will be marked with a tag stating "D" or "P" for the city of origin, "Vicksburg National Military Park", the abbreviation "MS" for Mississippi, and the face value of "$25."

The two-roll set (40 coins per roll) includes one roll from both facilities. The special Mint coin wrapper says "Vicksburg National Military Park," the abbreviation ""MS" for Mississippi, the value of the roll "$10," and"D" or "P" for the coin's origin.

The new quarter will also enter public circulation via the Federal Reserve Banking system beginning on the same day.

United States Mint Coin Forum

Also on August 29, the U.S. Mint will host a public coin forum for all coin enthusiasts and curious visitors. Mint officials will answer questions about past, current and upcoming coins and related topics. These forums generally last about an hour but may go longer based on crowd participation and the depth the Mint officials may provide in their answers.

The coin forum will begin at 7 p.m. Central Time. The coin forum location is the Vicksburg National Military Park Visitor Center Auditorium at 3201 Clay Street in Vicksburg, Mississippi.

Vicksburg Quarters - Ceremony Information & Coin Exchange

The Vicksburg quarter ceremony will be held for the public the next morning on August 30 at the U.S.S. Cairo Museum in the park, in Vicksburg, Mississippi. It will begin at 9:30 a.m. Central Time.

Speakers include Al Runnels, Chief of Staff, U.S. Mint, and Michael Madell, Superintendent of the national military park.

Attendees should expect the ceremony to last approximately 30 minutes. Immediately following the ceremony, children 18 an under will be given a free Vicksburg quarter while adults may exchange cash for rolls of the coins.

US Mint Sales: Glacier National Park Quarters Two Rolls Sets Lead

Three new 2011 America the Beautiful Quarter products appeared in the latest US Mint sales figures. They were the Glacier National Park Quarters Bags and Two-Rolls Sets. The 2011 Silver Quarters Proof Set's opening numbers, however, have yet to be announced.

The US Mint launched bags and rolls of Glacier National Park Quarters on Monday, April 4, and by Sunday, April 10 collectors picked up 19,927 of the two-roll sets, 2,697 of the Philadelphia stamped 100-coin bag, and 2,655 of the Denver 100-coin bag.

As a comparison, the 2011 Gettysburg National Military Park Quarter products opened a little stronger. Their bags and rolls launched on Thursday, January 27, and by Sunday, January 30 the Mint had sold 20,871 of the two-roll sets, 3,275 of the Philadelphia 100-coin bag, and 3,230 of the Denver 100-coin bag.

As for the 2011 America the Beautiful Quarters Silver Proof Set that debuted more than a week ago on Friday, April 1, 2011, the US Mint has not yet released their sales figures. Judging by the way other sets' sales increased, the newest silver quarters set looks to be having a positive impact.

The 2011 Mint Set climbed the most with 17,621. Previously, it had grown by 3,092. Another strong performer was the 2011 Proof Set. It added 14,543 to its total, which was up from 13,103 in the last round. The 2011 Silver Proof Set was not far behind with 13,998 in this report.

Only the Silver Eagles outperformed their prior gains among available bullion coins. Their total reached 13,803,000 after adding 715,500 since Wednesday, April 6. They advanced by 658,500 in the prior round. Gains for the other coins were soft in comparison. One ounce Gold Eagles rose 11,500 following a 31,500 increase last time. The one-tenth ounce Gold Eagles and the one ounce gold American Buffalos matched their prior additions with 5,000 and 3,000 respectively.

The first three columns of the table below provide weekly US Mint sales increases between the listed time periods, offering a sense of recent trends. The final column provides the latest US Mint sales totals as of Sunday, April 10, 2011. Bullion coin tables are found toward the bottom, with the most recent sales as of Tuesday, April 12. 2011 America the Beautiful Quarters Uncirculated Coin Set Availability

The United States Mint will make available the 2011 America the Beautiful Quarters Uncirculated Coin Set on Tuesday, April 19 for a price of $21.95.

America the Beautiful Quarters Uncirculated Coin Set

The set includes 10 uncirculated coins. Five are minted in Philadelphia and bear the "P" mint mark and five are produced in Denver and have the "D" mint mark. These are the same coins that are a subset of the annual 28-coin 2011 Mint Set, which was released on February 8 and priced at $31.95.

The America the Beautiful Quarters in the uncirculated coin set are packed within a single folder which includes information about the national parks and site related to the issues, coin specifications and a certificate of authenticity.

2011 America the Beautiful Quarters Uncirculated Coin Set™ Available April 19

WASHINGTON - The United States Mint will begin accepting orders for the 2011 America the Beautiful Quarters Uncirculated Coin Set on April 19 at noon Eastern Time (ET).

The 10-coin set contains uncirculated versions of the 2011 quarters in the America the Beautiful Quarters® Program. The coins were produced at the United States Mint facilities at Philadelphia and Denver and feature a brilliant uncirculated finish.

Orders will be accepted at http://www.usmint.gov/catalog or at 1-800-USA-MINT (872-6468). Hearing and speech-impaired customers with TTY equipment may place their orders by calling 1-888-321-MINT (6468). A shipping and handling fee of $4.95 will be added to all domestic orders.

US Mint Coin Mintages November: 2010 Quarters Known

Coin Mintages for Lincoln $1 and Mount Hood Quarter Revealed in November

American circulating coin mintages plunged last month, the latest November 2010 coin production figures from the US Mint reveal. The Mint produced a total of 531,460,000 coins in November 2010.

In contrast, coin mintages totaled more than 730 million during the previous month. In fact, the November drop marks the lowest level for the US Mint since April 2010 when nearly 452 coins were produced.

Only three denominations came out US Mint doors in November -- Lincoln pennies, Jefferson nickels and Roosevelt dimes. While America the Beautiful Quarters® and Presidential $1 coins were not struck, mintages for the final 2010 design issues for the coin series were reported.

The 2010 Mount Hood Quarter came in with a total of 68.8 million, split evenly with 34.4 million from Denver and 34.4 million from Philadelphia. How they compared to other America the Beautiful Quarter issues this year are shown in the following table:

It should be noted that any of the quarter mintages above have the potential to change this year if the bulk buyers step in and order in quantity. However, given the lateness of the year, new numbers would be unexpected.

The Abraham Lincoln $1 coin finished with a total mintage of 97.02 million. Philadelphia produced slightly more at 49 million while Denver struck 48.02 million. The levels were the highest since the first issue in 2009. Again, a comparison with the other 2010 releases follow.

The next round of coin mintages will not be published until January 2011.
