Grand Canyon Quarter Launch on South Rim, Coin Forum Information

2010 Grand Canyon National Park QuarterJoin the United States Mint and the National Park Service Tuesday, September 21 at 1:30 p.m. Mountain Standard Time (MST), for the official launch of the Grand Canyon National Park commemorative quarter-dollar.

The ceremony will take place on the scenic South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park between Hopi House and Verkamp's Visitor Center.

Those planning to attend are strongly encouraged to park in one of the lots at the Grand Canyon Visitor Center or the Backcountry Information Center and ride the park's free shuttle to a stop near Hopi House as parking in the vicinity is extremely limited.

Following the event, the public can exchange their cash for $10 rolls of the Grand Canyon National Park America the Beautiful Quarter.  Children 18 years and younger will receive a free Grand Canyon National Park quarter.

Public Coin Forum

The evening before the launch ceremony-Monday, September 20, at 5 p.m.-United States Mint Director Ed Moy will host a public Coin Forum at Grand Canyon National Park, Grand Canyon Railway Depot, at the base of the El Tovar Hill.  The Coin Forum is an opportunity for the public to express their views about future U. S. coinage, and to learn about current United States Mint programs and initiatives.

The America the Beautiful Quarters Program, authorized by Public Law 110-456, is a 12-year initiative to honor 56 national parks and other national sites.

Each year, the public will see five new national sites depicted on the reverse (tails side) of the America the Beautiful Quarters.  The United States Mint will issue these quarters in the order in which the honored site was first established as a national site.
