American Eagle 25th Anniversary Silver Coin Sets are now shipping -- at least beginning to for orders that were placed early on October 27 when the sets were released. The sets quickly sold out as buyers snapped up all 100,000 in about 4 1/2 hours, which means it will likely take some time before they all get delivered.
Reports began surfacing earlier Wednesday, November 8, that the United States Mint began updating order statuses for American Eagle 25th Anniversary Silver Coin Sets. Early orders were denoted with having been shipped and tracking numbers provided. The United States Mint also began sending out e-mail shipping confirmation announcements.
There has been an enormous amount of anticipation surrounding the sets, as is apparent from their sellout. Since then, the buzz has grown even stronger -- ranging from collector complaints over the inability to order one, a United States Mint announced review of their release due to said complaints, and soaring secondary market values. On the latter, eBay stopped auctions of American Eagle 25th Anniversary Silver Coin Sets as it told sellers they must first have possession of them. Before the stoppage, prices for single sets were actually being pre-sold for at least two times the Mint's $299.95 selling price.
The American Eagle 25th Anniversary Silver Coin Set includes five one ounce Eagles which commemorate the series that debuted in 1986. The five coins are:
a bullion Silver Eagle without a mint marka proof Silver Eagle from West Point with a "W" mint markan uncirculated Silver Eagle from West Point with a "W" mint markan uncirculated Silver Eagle from San Francisco with an "S" mint marka reverse proof Silver Eagle from Philadelphia with a "P" mint markThe last two coins are unique to the set as the other three are available individually and produced annually.
