Just like most years, the energy felt at the start of January tapered off as the weeks rolled on. The same was seen in this round of US Mint product sales figures. There were fewer news makers, but the standout was clearly the 2011 Proof Set. Another 25,879 left the Mint's shelves, which changed their total sold to 279,023 after 13 days since their launch.
The US Mint 2011 Proof Set still has not reached the 2010 Proof Set's first four days sales number of 296,379. Collectors do not seem to be in any kind of serious rush this time. In fact, sales for many other available numismatic products have been slow.
This week's gain for the 2010 Proof Set was 3,338 compared to 5,378 previously. And the 2010 Silver Proof Set picked up 2,711 versus 4,424 in the last round.
The 2010 Proof Gold Eagles maintained their nice round numbers from the previous report, so it appears the US Mint is finished with the gold coins' totals. The same was true for the 2010 Proof Silver Eagle coins. Their final number is still resting at 860,000.
Bullion is another story. The investor version Silver Eagles advanced another 136,000 in the last four days and moved their all time monthly record to 4,724,000. The one ounce gold bullion Eagles also grew. 7,500 were tacked on, moving their tally to 80,500 for January. Although, 80,500 is not even close to any of the gold Eagle's records.
Tomorrow will be a big day for the US Mint. They will launch the 2011 Silver Proof Set at 12:00 noon Eastern Time and also ceremoniously release the 2011 Gettysburg National Military Park Quarter. Then on Thursday, the 27th, they will release the quarters in bags and rolls. It will be the first new quarter design of 2011 and the sixth in the America the Beautiful Quarters® series. Finally, next Monday the 31st, the Mint will make available the 2011 United States Army Commemorative Coins.
The first three columns of the table below provide weekly US Mint sales increases between the listed time periods, offering a sense of recent trends. The final column provides the latest US Mint sales totals as of Sunday, January 23, 2011. Bullion coin tables are found toward the bottom, with the most recent sales as of Monday, January 24.
