Olympic National Park Five Ounce Silver Bullion Coin

Olympic National Park Coin

The United States Mint has scheduled the launch of Olympic National Park Five Ounce Silver Bullion Coin, the third 2011 five-ounce America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coin. It will begin accepting orders from its network of Authorized Purchasers for the bullion Olympic Silver Coin on Monday, May 23, 2011.

The investor-quality silver bullion coin will enter the market before its companion circulating America the Beautiful Quarter, which launches on June 13, 2011. The coin's design is the same as the quarter-dollar, but on a larger scale.

The reverse depicts a Roosevelt elk standing on a gravel river bar of the Hoh River with a view of Mount Olympus in the background. Inscriptions include OLYMPIC, WASHINGTON, 2011 and E PLURIBUS UNUM.

The bullion issue has a large 3.0 inch diameter and contains 5.0 troy ounces of .999 fine silver. It does not have a mintmark to denote it was struck at the US Mint facility in Philadelphia, and it is only sold in large quantities to United States Mint Authorized Purchasers who then sell them in the secondary market.

The mintage for the Olympic National Park Five Ounce Silver Bullion Coin will be at least 126,700, which is expected to be the same for each of the following 2011-dated bullion coins. Last year's limit was much smaller. The Mint only struck 33,000 of each 2010 bullion coins.

For reference, the body of the memorandum the United States Mint sent to its Authorized Purchasers about the Olympic coin follows:

The United States Mint will begin accepting orders for the third 2011 America the Beautiful Five Ounce Silver Bullion Coin- Olympic National Park- on Monday, May 23, 2011. The coins will be offered on an allocation basis, divided equally among participating silver Authorized Purchasers (APs).

The United States Mint will issue coins in the 2011 America the Beautiful Silver Five Ounce Bullion Coins Program in quantities substantially higher than we did for the 2010 America the Beautiful Five Ounce Silver Bullion Coins Program. As a result, there will be no terms and conditions imposed on the 2011 America the Beautiful Five Ounce Silver Bullion Coins Program.

The United States Mint will allocate an initial quantity of 126,700 coins for this issue. Our goal to have a minimum of at least 126,700 coins for each of the subsequent 2011 designs. The United States Mint may increase the mintage limit beyond the initial release quantities based on market demand and blank availability.

To participate in the 2011 America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coins Program, APs that participated in the 2010 America the Beautiful Five Ounce Silver Bullion Coins program must certify that it has sold ALL of its 2010 America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coins Program inventory to the public in compliance with the terms and conditions for these coins. Certifications must appear on company letterhead and be signed by an authorized representative of the Authorized Purchaser. A fax copy is acceptable. Certifications must be received by the United States Mint no later than 3:00PM (ET) Thursday, May 19, 2011. APs that did not participate in the 2010 program but wish to participate in the 2011 program can do so.

The premium remains unchanged from 2010, set at $9.75 per coin. When placing your orders, please be sure to properly identify the product you are ordering, i.e. 5 OZ ATB Olympic Coins, and please state the ounces and pieces that you are ordering. The minimum order quantity for the 5 ounce silver bullion coins is 10,000 ounces/2000 coins, with 500 oz/100 coin increments. A memo will be sent to each AP on the morning of May 23, 2011, confirming the allocation by design and quantity.

A collector version Olympic 5 oz Silver Uncirculated Coin is due from the Mint later this year. For more information on the coins, also check out sister site America the Beautiful Silver Coins.
